A teenage girl is killed on an electric scooter in the Costa del Sol
An 18-year-old girl was tragically killed after her electric scooter was involved in an accident with a car in the municipality of Estepona in the Costa del Sol on Wednesday morning. The accident happened just before 9.00am as she was taking her younger brother to school, who was on the scooter with her but survived.
Witnesses alerted the Emergency Services call centre who dispatched the Local Police and medical personnel to the scene of the incident in Calle Guillermo Cabrera, who requested an emergency medical helicopter due to her injuries.
Her 11-year-old brother was taken to the Maternal and Child Hospital in Malaga for the minor injuries he suffered, but he has already been discharged.
When it arrived they transferred her to the Regional Hospital of Malaga where she was admitted for emergency treatment. Unfortunately, the health service has confirmed that they were unable to save the girl’s life and she died on Thursday from her injuries.
According to the Local Police report, the scooter was hit by a car when she left the pavement and crossed a zebra crossing, and the woman driving the car that hit the scooter told them that she had: “not been able to stop to avoid it”.
