Bomb squad called to Marbella beach after archaeologists unearth unexploded missile
Bomb disposal experts were called to a Marbella beach yesterday afternoon (Tuesday), after archaeologists, who were carrying out a survey on a house located near Marbella's Roman baths, found an explosive device dating back to the Spanish Civil War.
They were about to study the surroundings of an exterior wall of a house that was damaged by a storm last year when they made the discovery at about 2pm on Guadalmina beach.
On finding the unexploded bomb they called The Emergency Services who immediately dispatched the bomb disposal unit (Tedax) to the beach to deal with it.
Specialists safely removed the artefact and took it away to their barracks where it will be detonated in a controlled manner. The missile was 40-centimetres long and "very rusty", so it is thought that it could have been in the sea and carried by the current before being washed up on the beach many years ago.
