Police save woman who was unconscious in the bath for two days after she hit her head
National Police officers on the Costa del Sol have helped save the life of an 84-year-old woman in Torremolinos, who had been lying trapped in her bathtub for two days after she apparently slipped and hit her head.
A concerned friend of the woman alerted the police on Sunday because she had not been able to contact her for several days. Neighbours at the complex where the woman lived had not seen her either, which was strange as she usually used to have breakfast and lunch at a local restaurant.
When officers arrived at her home, they called the woman's phone and heard it ringing inside. Sensing something was seriously wrong, they decided time was of the essence and broke the door down to the woman's home to gain access before the fire brigade got there and found the elderly woman floating face down in the water.
Fearing she was dead because her skin colour had darkened in the same way as when a body starts to decompose, they were about to contact the judicial authorities to remove her body, when they noticed that she was still breathing very faintly.
Because of this the officers lifted her out of the bath and placed her onto the bed where she opened one eye, and then closed it, due to exhaustion. Apparently the woman had slipped getting into the bath on Friday (26th May) and hit her head, rendering her unconscious.
An ambulance was called and rushed the injured woman to the accident and emergency department at the Hospital Clínico in Malaga, where she is now recovering in the intensive care unit.
