Tragedy as 18-month-old British toddler drowns in a pool in Benidorm
Reports are emerging that a British toddler has drowned in a swimming pool in Alicante on the Costa Blanca. The incident happened on Friday (May 12th) when an 18-month-old infant died, despite being attended to by the emergency services.
The Emergency Information and Coordination Centre (CICU) dispatched police and medical personnel to a villa in La Nucia, just north of Benidorm, after receiving an alert at around 10am, and when they got there found the small infant wasn’t breathing after being pulled from the water.
Despite their efforts in trying to revive the child, medics were unable to, and they could only confirm the infant’s death.
A spokesperson for the Guardia Civil said that an investigation had begun: “This incident is still under investigation, but everything so far is pointing to the youngster’s death being a tragic accident.”
Local sources said the family are from the UK, and the mother along with her three other children were at the villa when the tragic misfortune happened.
At this moment it is unclear whether the family are residents of the area or if they were on holiday, and it has not been disclosed whether the youngster is a boy or girl.
