Wizz Air introduces annual subscription for unlimited €9.99 flights
Budget airline, Wizz Air, has become the first in Spain to introduce a flat-rate subscription offering passengers the opportunity to book unlimited flights for a fixed price. This marks a significant shift in the industry, bringing back the “All You Can Fly” model, which had fallen out of favour with many airlines in recent years.
Under this new program, Wizz Air is offering an annual subscription of €599, allowing travellers to book unlimited flights at a flat rate of €9.99 per journey with the first flight free.
The airline operates from 15 Spanish airports, including Madrid, Malaga, the Balearic and Canary Islands, making the offer accessible to a wide range of travellers.
Key Details and Restrictions:
From September 25th, subscribers can book tickets for any of Wizz Air’s international routes, however, there are some important conditions to be aware of:
- Tickets must be booked at least 72 hours in advance.
- Subscribers are not allowed to change flight details once booked.
- Missing three flights (no-shows) could result in the cancellation of the subscription without any refund.
Why Introduce This Model?
The main advantage for Wizz Air lies in securing consistent, recurring revenue, and increased customer loyalty. Additionally, the real value for the airline comes from ancillary charges.
The flat-rate subscription does not include checked baggage or carry-on luggage, only allowing a small backpack (maximum dimensions of 40 x 30 x 20 cm). Wizz Air is likely to continue charging for these extras, and companions traveling with subscribers will need to pay full fares.
However, this innovative approach could set a new trend in the airline industry, offering price-conscious travellers a new way to manage their travel expenses while allowing the airline to capitalise on additional services. Let’s see who follows suit!
