32-year-old man killed in jet ski accident in the Costa del Sol
A 32-year-old French man was killed yesterday (Wednesday) in an accident involving a jet ski in Fuengirola, which is the second fatality of the summer in the Costa del Sol using this type of machine, after a woman of the same age, died in El Palo on July 16th.
The incident occurred at around 4.40pm which is when the 112-Andalucía emergency call centre received several alerts reporting that a jet ski had suffered an opposite the Rey de España promenade in Fuengirola.
The jet ski was being ridden by two people and no other vessel was involved. It appears that the accident occurred when they were riding a wave, at which point the victim fell into the water and was hit by the jet ski, although the exact cause of death is not yet known.
The man was pulled from the sea showing signs of drowning and was in cardiorespiratory arrest, but unfortunately, efforts to save the victim by medical staff at the scene, were in vain and they could only confirm his death.
The Guardia Civil have opened an investigation to clarify the facts surrounding the circumstances of the accident.
This is the second fatal accident involving a jet ski in the province of Malaga in just over three weeks. The first occurred on July 16th during the Virgen del Carmen festivities. The victim, who was taken to the shore unconscious with serious injuries, was named as Marina, aged 32.
Medical staff managed to resuscitate her after more than 40 minutes of CPR, after which she was evacuated to a hospital, where she underwent emergency surgery, but despite the doctors' efforts, she died due to internal bleeding due to her injuries.
According to the reports of the survivors, Marina was travelling on a three-seater jet ski with two other friends when her cap flew off. As she tried to pick it up, she fell into the water, suffering a heavy blow that knocked her unconscious. Marina was left floating (she was wearing a life jacket) until her companions circled back round to pick her up and took her back to shore.
