A new overnight temperature record for August of 30.3°C is registered in Malaga
Those saying that this summer seems hotter than usual, are right, as not only has Malaga just recorded the hottest month of July since records began in 1942, but the province has now registered its hottest overnight temperature for the month of August at the AEMET weather station at Malaga Airport.
On Wednesday (2nd August) the lowest temperature recorded overnight and, in the morning, was 30.3°C and didn’t drop below this level which is a new record.
August started with a red level 'extreme risk' weather warning for temperatures in excess of 42°C in the western strip of the Costa del Sol and towns in the Guadalhorce Valley, but a respite is forecast for this weekend which is expected to last until the middle of next week with temperatures set to be around the 30°C mark.
Storm Patricia in France and an easterly wind are behind the sharp drop in temperatures, which will be lower than normal for the time of year. According to AEMET, the drop is expected to be up to 13 degrees, which in meteorological terms is a huge decrease in such a short space of time.
Minimum temperatures will also drop, going from the 29 and 30°C recorded earlier this week, to a more comfortable 22-23°C during the nights this weekend.
