A tourist dies in Tossa de Mar after falling 30 metres from a cliff
A tourist has died after falling over 30 metres from a cliff in the Futadera Cove in Tossa de Mar (Girona). The Generalitat Fire Brigade received an alert at 11:49pm on Saturday night to rescue a man in a difficult area to access near the steps that go down to the cove.
Fire crews and the mountain and underwater Special Actions Group (GRAE) were both dispatched to the area and after assessing the situation, called for a maritime rescue helicopter, with permission to fly at night, to assist them.
Finally, at 2:35am, they managed to rescue the man and airlift him to safety where an EMS doctor was waiting to treat him and stabilise him before he was transferred to the Trueta de Girona hospital, where unfortunately he died due to the seriousness of the injuries sustained in the fall.
According to his family, who are receiving psychological support from the SEM, the man jumped a fence to take a photograph and slipped and fell down the cliff. The Mossos d'Esquadra have concluded that it is an accidental death.
