A wet weekend ahead as AEMET activates yellow warning for storms in Andalucía
After several very dry and hot weeks, the unusual spring weather that has been seen in the south of Spain is taking a break, and some rain could make an appearance in Andalucía starting this evening (Thursday). This is due to a pocket of dense cold air in the middle layers of the atmosphere that will give rise to a ‘Dana’ which is an isolated depression at high levels.
This will result in some isolated and localised showers in various points along the south Spanish coast, along with a general drop in temperatures.
Cadiz will be the first province most affected by this instability, and the state meteorological agency AEMET has activated a yellow weather warning on the coast due to the possibility of storms between 6pm and midnight.
Some weak showers may fall this evening in the Malaga province, but not in all municipalities, with AEMET setting the probability of rain at 30%, with a drop in the maximum temperature to 22°C which is eight degrees less than a few days ago.
Tomorrow (Friday) the forecast worsens with a greater probability that the rain will spread to more areas. DANAs make forecasting very difficult as they affect isolated pockets. For example, there was 25mm of rain in Nerja a few days ago, and just two kilometres away hardly anything. What is clearer though, is that this situation of instability could continue over the weekend.
AEMET are currently predicting a 95% possibility of showers and storms on Friday which will drop to 80% on Saturday and 65% on Sunday. Maximum temperatures are not expected to exceed 20-22°C for the remainder of the week and minimums will be between 14 and 17 degrees.
