Alicante-Elche airport breaks records in August with 1.7 million passengers
Alicante-Elche Airport has once again set new records in August by registering its highest number of passengers in the history of this month, with 1.7 million travellers. These figures reinforce a year of records, with the best visitor numbers in its history being achieved practically month after month. Only in June and July did they narrowly miss surpassing the records of 2019, which had held the previous record.
The numbers indicate that in August, the airport has returned to the path of continuous improvement compared to the year immediately before the pandemic, confirming that 2023 will be a record-breaking year for tourism.
The data positioned the terminal as the fifth busiest in Spain, and across the entire national territory, Aena's airports managed to surpass the records of 2019.
According to Aena, Alicante-Elche Miguel Hernández Airport recorded its best August ever with a total of 1,702,139 passengers, surpassing the previous record set in August 2019 with 1,692,011 passengers. Furthermore, this represents a 12.6% increase compared to the same month last year.
Out of the total number of passengers, 1,699,038 were commercial passengers, of which 1,451,808 travelled on international flights, marking a 14.1% increase compared to August 2022. Meanwhile, 247,230 passengers travelled on domestic flights, a 3.9% increase from the previous year.
Breaking down the international traffic by nationalities, the countries contributing the most passengers in August 2023 were the United Kingdom with 581,304 travellers, followed by Germany with 108,500, the Netherlands with 100,861, Belgium with 84,530, and France with 82,710.
In terms of operations, Alicante-Elche Miguel Hernández Airport handled a total of 10,468 flights in August, surpassing the movements managed during the same period in 2022 by 6.9%.
