An electric scooter explodes on an underground train in Madrid
The service of Line 2 of the Madrid Metro was interrupted yesterday afternoon (Tuesday) between the Alsacia and Manuel Becerra stations, in both directions, after the battery of an electric scooter exploded inside a subway train.
The trains on this section of Line 2 (Las Rosas-Cuatro Caminos) stopped running at 5:44pm because the explosion caused a fire and heavy smoke in the last car of a train, requiring the fire brigade to perform ventilation tasks underground and leaving the train stationary at the station.
In particular, the disruption affected five stations on the red line: Alsacia, La Almudena, La Elipa, Ventas (with a connection to Metro Line 5), and Manuel Becerra (with a connection to Line 6, the circular).
Full service resumed just over an hour later at 7:00pm and no injuries were reported.
