Another hotel in Mallorca is in jeopardy due to Coastal Laws
Another hotel in Mallorca is at risk due to the Coastal Law, this time, it is the most well-known establishment in the tourist resort of Colònia de Sant Jordi, the Marqués de Palmer of Universal Beach Hotels. The property has lost the concession for the private use of the coastal area, where facilities including the pool and sunbathing area are located.
The concession by the Coastal Authority for the occupation of the public d area expired in July 2018, and the case has been delayed for legal reasons, but after years of litigation and appeals, a recent court ruling has favoured Costas over the company's interests, among other things, because the request for an extension wasn’t submitted until after the deadline.
The fact remains that this latest ruling can still be appealed by Universal Beach Hotels, however, if the Ministry ultimately wins the case, the establishment will be severely affected as it would lose the space where the pool is located, in a prime location.
As for the hotel, it is a four-star accommodation that has been renovated and modernized in recent years and primarily operates during the summer season.
