Benidorm is enjoying a week full of Pride celebrations
Benidorm is currently immersed in a celebration of LGTBI Pride, with a week brimming with events set to culminate in Saturday's parade and the grand closing party on Sunday. This is a significant date on the town's calendar, expected to draw more than 20,000 people from across the nation and various European countries. Benidorm's Pride event is the final one in the European Pride festival calendar.
As part of the festivities, the Espai d’Art at Benidorm City Hall, located in the town hall's lobby, opened the Vibe Arte painting exhibition on Tuesday. This exhibition, created by Bulgarian artist Martin Georgiev Binev, is part of the official program of events and features around twenty abstract art pieces made using mixed techniques. The artist employs various lines, strokes, and colours to express feelings, dreams, and emotions. The exhibition will be open for the entire week at the Espai d’Art.
It was visited by Angela Zaragozí, the Equality Councillor of Benidorm, who inaugurated the display alongside Santos Torres, one of the organizers of the Benidorm Pride Festival. During her visit, Zaragozí expressed gratitude to the event organizers for including cultural activities alongside the more festive and advocacy-focused ones. She also encouraged the public to visit the exhibition.
Parade and more
In addition to the art exhibition, over a dozen events will unfold throughout the week, including themed parties and activities in more than 40 "gay-friendly" venues across the city. The week will culminate with the main event: the grand parade and demonstration set to take place on Saturday afternoon. Over twenty floats, performers, and vintage cars and motorcycles are expected to participate.
As in previous editions, the Parade will kick off at 5:00pm, starting from Rincón de Loix and traversing Levante Promenade and a section of Avenida Mediterráneo before concluding at the Julio Iglesias Auditorium in l’Aigüera Park, where the main Benidorm Pride Festival party will also be held.
Jesús Carrobles, the Councillor for Events, emphasized, "Benidorm Pride is one of the standout events in our city, attracting a large national and international audience and adding a burst of colour to our streets." Furthermore, he highlighted the significant boost this event provides to Benidorm, stating that a "98% occupancy rate is expected for the weekend."
