British holidaymaker in coma after fall in Benidorm bathroom
A Glasgow man has been left in a coma after a devastating bathroom accident during his holiday in Benidorm, Costa Blanca. The incident resulted in a brain aneurysm that has left him unresponsive and in need of immediate medical attention.
This heart-wrenching situation has prompted 61-year-old Stephen Ross's family to initiate a crowdfunding campaign, aiming to raise £30,000 to get him back to Scotland, where he can receive the essential care he urgently requires, as reported by STV.
Stephen's partner, Lorraine Johnstone, has shared an emotional plea with the public, expressing her profound shock and recounting the events that unfolded at their hotel last month. The accident occurred just four days into their holiday when Stephen slipped on a bathroom step, causing him to fall unconscious. Fortunately, a cleaner, who Stephen had recently let into their room, came to Lorraine's aid.
Immediately following the fall, Stephen was transported via ambulance to a nearby private hospital, where he underwent critical emergency surgery to save his life. Despite initial treatment, he remained in the private facility for two more days before being transferred to a standard hospital.
Lorraine has revealed that their holiday insurance covers only 18% of the substantial medical bills. As a result, she has been forced to seek assistance to facilitate her partner's return home and cover her ongoing expenses in Spain.
She explained, "Stephen is still in this hospital, and he is in a coma but is fighting through, and we can only hope he gets better and wakes up soon. We do have holiday insurance; however, it is only paying 18% of hospital costs, leaving me with a huge bill that I don't have the money to pay."
She continued, "My main priority is getting Stephen the care he needs so I can get him back home with me to look after him. As you can all imagine, it's not only causing me heartache, stress, and worry, but it's also costing an absolute fortune for me to go over there to be by his side, but I will find a way and I'll be by his bedside."
Lorraine expressed her reluctance to establish the crowdfunding page, noting her embarrassment but emphasized her primary focus on her partner's well-being and safety, bringing him back home where he belongs.
She implored, "Please if you can support Stephen by making a donation, I would be forever grateful if you can. Even if you aren't in a position to donate, can you please give this page a share."
