British man drowns off a beach the Costa Brava
A 62-year-old British man died from drowning on Saturday afternoon (April 29th) in the north-east province of Girona on the Costa Brava. The man is believed to have gone for a swim at Sant Roc Cove and when he didn’t return, a woman alerted the emergency services.
The emergency call centre received a call at around 1:00pm and dispatched police and medical personnel to the holiday resort of Calella de Palafrugell, and recovered his body from the water.
Early indications suggested that it was an accident and he had tragically drowned, and a local judge gave permission for the body to be removed for official identification and autopsy to determine the cause of death.
It has not been made clear if the woman who raised the alarm was the man’s partner or whether she lives in the area or is on holiday. Neither has it been revealed if the deceased was on holiday or was a British resident of the town.
