Denia fishing boat ‘catches’ fifth dead body in just over two months
Fishermen working seven miles off the coast of Denia in Alicante, pulled in the fifth dead body stuck in their nets in two months yesterday afternoon (Tuesday). According to the crew from the boat, it was in an advanced state of decomposition and missing some body parts.
The trawler docked back in the port of Denia at 2:50pm where officers from the Guardia Civil and Local Police were waiting for them. They were promptly joined by forensic officers and a judge who was there to authorise the removal of the body from the dock.
This is the fifth dead body found by fishing boats near Dénia in just over two months. At the end of March, two bodies in the space of two days were caught up in nets while fishing about five miles off the coast of Denia, and a similar incident happened on April 12th.
On that occasion, two bodies were in their nets when they pulled their catch out of the sea about six miles from the coast. These were also in an advanced state of decomposition and were two men of Nigerian nationality according to identification documents found on them.
The body has been taken for official identification and autopsy to confirm the cause of death.
