Fire in Benidorm tower block forces residents to the roof for safety
The fire brigade were called to at an apartment block in Benidorm in the early hours of yesterday morning (Sunday), where a fire had caused residents of the building to seek safety on the roof away from the blaze whilst firefighters battled to extinguish it.
According to the Provincial Fire Consortium of Alicante, they received an alert just after 5:00am and dispatched five fire engines and crews to a tower block on Calle Esperanto in Benidorm.
An hour later they had the fire under control and were able to evacuate the residents of the building who were stranded on the roof and take them to safety.
According to the Emergency Services Information Centre (CICU), there were no injuries but several people were treated for smoke inhalation and taken to hospital as a precautionary measure.
At around 9:40am the fire brigade declared that the fire was fully extinguished and started the clean-up process and an investigation to ascertain how it started in the first place.
