Goodbye rain. Hello 35°C temperatures in the Costa del Sol
According to the State Meteorological Agency (AEMET), temperatures will begin to rise today (Wednesday) due to a hot Terral wind, with thermometers touching 35°C after several weeks of wet weather.
The municipalities of Cártama, Coín, Pizarra and Álora are expected to have the highest temperatures of 34 to 35°C, with nearly all of the towns in the Guadalhorce Valley experiencing highs above 30°C this afternoon and evening.
Western parts of the Costa del Sol will also see a rise in temperatures, with Torremolinos, Benalmádena, and Mijas reaching 29°C, and a high of 31°C expected in Manilva and Estepona.
In the east, Rincón de la Victoria and Vélez-Málaga will also exceed 30°C, with Malaga city touching 33°C, while Torrox and Nerja can expect to be a bit cooler at 26°C.
In contrast to the recent rain and cold weather, the Malaga province is due to experience a few days of sweltering heat, but this could change quickly as a Levante wind is poised to enter the region, which will cause temperatures to drop.
Despite the heat, a yellow weather alert for strong westerly winds is in place from 2pm until midnight. AEMET issued this weather warning for ‘coastal phenomena’, with the winds expected to blow between 50 and 60 km/h, creating waves of up to three metres in height and deep swells.
