Holidaymaker dies after being crushed by his rent a car in Torremolinos
A 36-year-old man died in Torremolinos on the Costa del Sol on Wednesday after being crushed against railings by his own rented vehicle in a car park. According to the local press, he was a Dutch holidaymaker spending the day with his family and friends in the area of La Carihuela.
The victim was on holiday in Spain at the time of the accident, staying in a villa in the municipality of Ojén with his wife and their two children, and had reportedly travelled to La Carihuela to visit some friends.
These friends were with him and his family when the incident happened at around 4:30pm on the top floor of the multi-story car park in Calle Los Nidos.
Witnesses say that the victim was not in the car at the time of the incident, and believe he had not put the automatic car into parking mode as it rolled forward unexpectedly and trapped him against railings.
The same witnesses have said that one of the deceased friends immediately alerted the Andalucian Emergency Services, who dispatched ambulances and police to the address given.
When paramedics got to the scene of the accident, there was nothing they could do to save his life and confirmed his death due to the injuries he suffered when crushed by the car.
Workmen attended the location yesterday to repair the damage caused by the impact of the vehicle against the wall, meanwhile, an investigation has been launched by the National Police to determine the full facts surrounding the tragic accident.
