July will finish with temperatures of up to 40 degrees and torrid nights
The month of July will end with typical temperatures for the time of year, since they are expected to go up over the last few days of the month, especially today (Saturday), when values around 40°C and 42°C will be registered in the south of the country and give way to an August in which the general trend of the first few days will continue to be high temperatures and "torrid nights" in the Mediterranean area, according to AEMET.
This will not be the case in the Cantabrian Sea, where cloudy skies and light rains will predominate with maximum temperatures that will oscillate between 25°C and 27°C.
Thus, after a few days of somewhat cooler temperatures for the season, during the last days of July and early August, heat is expected again, although it will not be extreme, in parts of the southern half where temperatures could reach 40°C.
During the early hours of last Wednesday, the thermometers registered temperatures of less than 8°C in cities such as Reinosa (Cantabria) or Burgos de Osma (Soria), low values for the time of year that have contrasted with the 29°C minimum registered in the town of Adra (Almería) or 28°C at Malaga airport.
According to AEMET data, both maximum and minimum temperatures have been very high on the Mediterranean coast, because the sea is warmer than normal, with areas such as Alborán where the water temperature exceeds 28°C, a sign that the current values are 4°C above the usual for these dates.
Wednesday of this coming week will generally pass with slightly cloudy skies throughout Spain and the heat will return to the Guadalquivir and Guadiana Valley where temperatures will reach 38°C. On the contrary, cloudy skies are expected in the Bay of Biscay and evolutionary clouds may grow throughout the afternoon that will bring stormy showers in the north of Catalonia and the Balearic Islands.
A Dana is coming:
On Thursday, the passage of a Dana coming from the Atlantic will settle over the north of the Peninsula and will cause an increase in atmospheric instability, which will mean clouds from noon in the interior of the northern half and the eastern part of the country.
These clouds could bring stormy showers that could be strong and be accompanied by hail in Navarra, Northern Aragon, and Catalonia, while dry storms with little precipitation but with strong gales could appear in other parts of the northern half, especially on the plateau.
Regarding temperatures, there will be a drop in the southern half and an increase in the northern half, with more than 34°C in the Tagus, Guadiana, and Guadalquivir Valleys and more than 36°C in the Ebro Valley, heat that is expected to be accompanied by haze in the south.
After the passage of the Dana, AEMET has indicated that on Friday the weather will stabilize, although there will still be cloudy skies accompanied by rain in Galicia, the Cantabrian Sea, and the northwest of Castilla y León.
In this way, temperatures will drop in the north and rise in the southern half and the Balearic Islands, with more than 34°C in areas of the eastern, central, and southern peninsula and the Balearic archipelago, and 40°C in the Guadalquivir Valley. AEMET has also warned of the forecast of torrid nights in the Mediterranean, which will not drop below 25°C.
At the end of next week, the atmosphere will be generally warm, with higher than normal night temperatures in the Mediterranean with torrid nights in Barcelona and Valencia. In the Bay of Biscay, on the other hand, some light rains will continue.
