Malaga gives go ahead to target Stag and Hen Party misconduct with heavy fines
Malaga City Council have taken resolute action to combat the indecent conduct that has marred the city centre due to the escalating number of stag and hen parties. Following a comprehensive process initiated last December, the Citizen Coexistence regulations received approval yesterday (Thursday) with resounding support from local residents and businesses fed up with the disturbances caused by these boisterous visitors.
The final step in the enactment of these new rules, before they take effect, awaits approval at the forthcoming full council session scheduled for 27th September, and then the complete text will be published in the Official Gazette of the Province (BOP).
The freshly introduced regulations are set to prohibit public nudity and the possession of inflatable sex dolls or items of a sexual nature. Local Police officers will be able to impose fines of up to 750 euros per person who breaks these violations.
While the regulation itself dates back to 2019, the latest amendment is notably specific in its focus on curtailing the lascivious conduct associated with stag and hen parties. For instance, Article 36 explicitly prohibits public nudity or appearing in undergarments within the city. However, exceptions have been made for events such as carnivals and other authorised public performances.
Paragraph five also explicitly bans activities linked to prostitution, encompassing "sexual practices, as well as the offering, negotiation, and direct or indirect acceptance of sexual services in public areas, when such activities disrupt the peaceful coexistence of citizens." Violators of this provision may face fines ranging from 750 to 1,500 euros.
The ordinance additionally outlines that any fines collected pertaining to prostitution-related offences will be earmarked for "supporting municipal social, educational, and employment programs designed for individuals engaged in sex work, as defined in this ordinance. These funds will particularly aid those individuals who decide to leave this profession, thereby assisting victims of this serious issue."
