Man arrested for allegedly drugging and raping a female British tourist in Majorca
A harrowing incident of sexual assault occurred in Majorca, as a British tourist fell victim to a suspected drink-spiking incident. The traumatizing event took a horrifying turn when she woke up without her underwear in a different hotel from the one she had been staying in. A French tourist has been apprehended in connection with the assault.
As reported by the Daily Mail, this is the latest in a series of disturbing sexual assault cases to have transpired on the Balearic Island in recent months, raising serious concerns for the safety of tourists.
The young British tourist shared her horrifying experience with local authorities, expressing her belief that her drink had been spiked during a night out in Palma the previous Saturday. Her evening had started innocently enough, as she had met a group of four other tourists, including the French man. She recounted her inability to recall any events after consuming a few drinks.
In response to the traumatic incident, medical tests were swiftly carried out at the hospital to determine whether the tourist had been drugged and to gather as much information as possible regarding the incident.
The arrest of a suspect was made after the discovery of the woman's belongings in the room where the alleged assault had taken place.
A statement attributed to the Policia Nacional in Majorca confirmed the incident:
"On Monday, officers arrested a 36-year-old French tourist on suspicion of sexually attacking a tourist. The young woman had gone for a drink in the area by the bullring in Palma on Saturday night and met four other holidaymakers."
"She got into a conversation and they had a couple of beers, but from that moment on, she doesn't remember anything, only that she woke up the following day at 8.30 am in another hotel which wasn't her one, dressed but without her underwear on."
The police report added that the woman was "semi-conscious" when she sought help and raised the alarm, although her age was not disclosed.
Details on the current status of the case and the suspect's detention or release have not been provided. The incident has added to a troubling trend of sexual assault cases in Majorca in recent months, further underlining the need for increased safety measures and vigilance in the popular tourist destination.
