Man's knife threats cause chaos on motorway by Malaga Airport
A dramatic incident unfolded on the MA-20 motorway near Malaga Airport yesterday afternoon (Saturday), as an armed man brought traffic to a standstill by brandishing a knife, forcing alarmed drivers to swerve to avoid him.
At approximately 6:50 pm on Saturday, panic ensued on the MA-20 motorway in Malaga when multiple calls from witnesses flooded the emergency services hotline. Eyewitnesses reported a shirtless man defiantly riding a bicycle against oncoming traffic, dangerously close to the Leroy Merlin exit.
Some callers described him as hurling his bicycle into the middle of the motorway, instantly causing traffic disruptions. More alarmingly, others reported that he brandished a knife and was menacingly threatening both vehicles and their occupants.
Motorists were compelled to take evasive actions, swerving to prevent a potential collision with the individual, who was perilously positioned on the road.
Promptly alerted to the situation, the Guardia Civil dispatched a patrol to the scene, ultimately managing to remove the knife-wielding man from the motorway, as per information provided by 112 Andalucía.
Consequently, Spain's Directorate-General of Traffic reported extensive traffic jams stretching for several kilometres in the direction of Torremolinos due to the incident.
