Mother arrested for leaving her 3-year-old son at home while she went out at night
A mother has been taken into custody following accusations that she left her three-year-old son home alone during a storm while she went out with her partner in Alhaurín de la Torre in the Costa del Sol. The arrest came after concerned neighbours contacted the authorities upon witnessing the child leaning out of a window, crying and shouting for his mother on Thursday, September 14th.
According to residents in the vicinity, the child was visibly upset, having woken up during the storm and realizing his mother was absent. In his distress, he opened the window and called out for help. Neighbours reported that this was not the first time this has happened.
Guardia Civil officers promptly arrived at the property and after comforting the distressed child, they inquired about the whereabouts of his parents, to which he replied that he did not know.
Witnesses have said that his mother, who had gone out with her partner, returned home at around 1:00am and began calling out her son's name while inquiring about his location. Neighbours then advised her that he had been taken to the local police station.
Upon reaching the Alhaurín de la Torre police station, and reuniting with her son, she was arrested on charges of temporarily abandoning the child.
