Police investigation into travel agency for alleged Honeymoon scam
The Palma Police in Mallorca have initiated a formal investigation into the head of a predominantly online-based travel agency, following allegations of financial misconduct that left a couple distraught and their honeymoon plans in shambles.
This troubling case was brought to light by a couple who had entrusted their upcoming honeymoon arrangements to the aforementioned travel agency. According to the couple, they had paid for their honeymoon package more than four months ago, comprising flight bookings, hotel accommodations, and various other components.
However, as of today, none of the reservations have been confirmed, and the agency has failed to process the paid cancellation insurance.
Suspicions arose when the couple's attempts to contact the travel agent were met with silence. Growing concerned, they took it upon themselves to reach out to the airlines and hotels directly. It was there that they discovered that reservations had indeed been initiated but were subsequently cancelled by the respective service providers, citing non-payment by the intermediary travel agency.
Diario de Mallorca, in pursuit of the truth, reached out to the embattled travel agent, who vehemently denied any wrongdoing regarding the misappropriation of funds. Instead, she asserted her intention to reimburse her clients once they repaid her for the amounts she had already spent on reservations—despite her prior assurances that reservations had not been secured.
This investigation continues to unfold, with the hopes of justice and resolution for the couple whose dream honeymoon remains in jeopardy.
