PortAventura's owners are looking to sell the park for a billion euros
The owners of PortAventura, investment funds Investindustrial and KKR, are exploring the market to find buyers for the theme park located in Salou (Tarragona). According to Cinco Días, the valuation of the asset is estimated to be around 1 billion euros.
Private equity funds see an opportunity to capitalize on their asset in this second year of recovery after the pandemic. Investindustrial acquired a 50% stake in 2009 after paying €94.8 million to Criteria CaixaCorp. In 2012, they purchased the entirety of the shares, although in 2013, they sold 49.9% of the shares to KKR for €200 million.
Now, both are seeking a buyer, and one of the top contenders could be Universal Parks & Resorts. Strong rumours emerged earlier in 2023 that the world's third-largest theme park operator was interested in acquiring the Salou theme park.
