Six arrested in Marbella for stealing Rolex watches worth €50,000
The Local Police have arrested six people in Marbella linked to the theft of expensive watches in two different robberies. According to reports, two of the detainees had active search and arrest warrants against them, while two others were carrying false ID cards.
The first arrest occurred ten days ago when police spotted a grey Honda Jazz with four people inside parked in the immediate vicinity of a jewellery shop, watching people who left the premises wearing expensive watches.
When they spotted a target, three of them got out of the car and headed towards the shop and the police quickly realised that one of them was in charge of identifying the possible victims, while two others walked about ten metres behind them waiting to strike, and the other stayed in the car.
However, after a few minutes, one of them noticed the police presence and notified the rest of the group in Arabic. They immediately ran to their car and drove off, but the police chased them and quickly caught and stopped them.
Those arrested included a 37-year-old male born in Algeria, who lives in Barcelona and has a search and arrest warrant against him from and the Court of Instruction number 4 of Hospitalet de Llobregat.
Another born in Rousillon in 1987 who was carrying a completely fake identity card from France; and a 31-year-old, born in Faumont in France, whose identity card also turned out to be a forgery.
The last of the four was born in Morocco in 1993 with no known address, on whom a search and arrest warrant was pending from the Mossos de Escuadra for robbery with violence and intimidation.
The second arrest took place at dawn on Thursday (1st June) when officers were carrying out surveillance and discovered a Yamaha motorcycle with two occupants circulating on Alfonso de Hohenlohe Boulevard.
They had been detected the previous night in Puerto Banús wearing black helmets, gloves, and ski masks, and when they noticed the officers, they quickly left the area.
On this occasion, the police tried to stop them but they ignored the officers and tried to escape on the bike, but were pulled over by the police vehicle.
As one of the officers got out of the police car, the driver of the motorbike intentionally rammed it into him, with the clear intention of getting away again, but the officer quickly moved out of way and the driver lost control of the motorcycle, sending both its occupants to the ground.
The driver was arrested immediately after the fall, while his partner pushed one of the cops and managed to flee on foot towards the beach. He was intercepted though after only a few metres by another unit of the Local Police as he was leaving a garden area where he had hidden the helmet and the jacket he was wearing.
The detainees were identified as KN, 29 years old, born in Jersey and residing in Barcelona, and AK born in 1992 and of Polish nationality.
During the operations, the police retrieved three high-end Rolex watches with a value in excess of €50,000. Those arrested and the rest of the proceedings were handed over to the National Police for a full report to the judicial authorities.
