Spanish airports break the all-time passenger records in July
The Spanish airports in the AENA network closed July 2023 with a new record number of passengers: 29,762,051 which is 10% more than in the same month of 2022 and 1.2% more than in 2019 the previous record year.
Of this total number of travellers in the seventh month of the year, 29,700,963 corresponded to commercial passengers: 20,420,217 were on international flights, 12% more than in July 2022; while 9,280,746 travelled on domestic flights, 6% more than last year.
From January to July 2023, close to 160 million people passed through AENA airports (20.6% and 1.2% more than in 2022 and 2019, respectively), on around 1.4 million flights, and almost 600,000 tons of cargo was transported.
Busiest airports:
Madrid Airport registered the highest number of passengers in July, with 5.5 million, which represents a growth of 10% compared to July last year. This is followed by Barcelona with 4.9 million (+11% compared to 2022); Palma de Mallorca, with 4.4 million (+6%); Malaga-Costa del Sol, with 2.4 million (+18%); Alicante-Elche, with 1.7 (+13%); Ibiza, with 1.4 (+7%); Gran Canaria, with 1.14 (+7%), and Valencia, with 1 million passengers (+18%).
Flights:
In terms of flight operations, the airport with the most movements in July was Madrid, with a total of 34,000 flights in and out of the airport (+6% compared to 2022), followed by Barcelona with 30,000 flights (+8%); Palma de Mallorca, with 29,900 (+2.5%); Malaga-Costa del Sol, with 17,000 (+12%); Gran Canaria, with 10,600 (+7%) and Alicante-Elche, with 10,500 landings and take-offs (+8%).
