Spanish airports report their best August in history with nearly 30 million passengers
Spanish airports have closed the month of August with a historic record of passengers. Specifically, according to data published by Aena, a total of 29,890,357 passengers were registered. This represents a 9.5% increase compared to the same month last year and a 1.4% increase compared to 2019, the year before the pandemic when the previous record was set.
In the cumulative figures from January to August, Spanish airports have handled 189,099,532 passengers, also a record figure, as it represents an 18.7% increase compared to 2022 and a 1.2% increase compared to 2019.

Among the Spanish airports managed by Aena, some stand out for the large number of passengers recorded. Of course, in first place is Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas Airport, which, with 5,559,790 passengers in August, achieved the best result, surpassing last year's August figures by 11.5%.
Other airports that have exceeded their own August 2022 records include:
- Alicante-Elche Miguel Hernández, with 1,702,139 passengers, marking a 12.6% increase from 2022 (also its best August ever).
- Josep Tarradellas Barcelona-El Prat, with 4,974,579 passengers, representing an 11.4% increase compared to 2022.
- Gran Canaria, with 1,129,345 passengers, indicating a 3.6% increase from 2022.
- Ibiza, with 1,435,874 passengers, showing a 5.5% increase from 2022.
- Málaga-Costa del Sol, with 2,419,072 passengers, experiencing a 17.8% increase from 2022 (also its best August ever).
- Palma (Mallorca), with 4,371,606 passengers, recording a 5% increase from 2022.
- Valencia, with 1,072,418 passengers, marking an 18.7% increase from 2022 (also its best August ever).
