The renowned Caminito del Rey suspended walkway is to get its own weather station
One of the most cherished tourist attractions in Malaga, the Caminito del Rey suspended walkway, as seen on TV this week with Gordon Ramsey, Gino Del Campo, and Fred Sirieix, is on the verge of getting its very own official AEMET weather station.
It has long been susceptible to landslides, particularly during storms and heavy rainfall, so as a response to these concerns, an official weather station will be installed at the site, offering precise insights into the local weather conditions.
The Malaga provincial authority (Diputación) has articulated that this weather station will furnish meteorologists with access to more precise and region-specific weather data making it safer for people to use.
Marcelino Méndez-Trelles, the director of El Caminito del Rey, expressed his optimism about this development, stating, "This will help us ensure the safety of our visitors and workers."
Previously, weather data had been sourced from the Coín weather station, which is the nearest to this popular tourist destination, however, the new initiative presents AEMET with an opportunity to acquire weather information from other surrounding areas such as Ardales, Carratraca, and Álora.
The Diputación has been diligently crafting an integrated health and safety management system to address a spectrum of potential hazards, encompassing geological, forest fire, biotic, natural, and climatic risks. Cristóbal Ortega noted, "We will be able to access reliable, accurate, and truthful data from El Caminito del Rey, as opposed to relying on weather stations located 50 or 60 kilometres away."
