Tragic discovery in Torremolinos: Young woman's body found with signs of asphyxiation
The National Police are currently conducting a comprehensive investigation into the circumstances surrounding the distressing discovery of a deceased young woman whose lifeless body was abandoned in a Torremolinos street. At this time, the identity of the victim remains unknown, and authorities believe that she had passed away several hours before her body was found, indicating that it may have been left at the location during the night. Initial examinations have suggested the possibility of asphyxiation as the cause of death.
The grim discovery occurred shortly after 1:30am yesterday, Wednesday September 13th, when a group of young people on their way home stumbled upon the tragic scene. The body was spotted adjacent to a pedestrian crossing at the entrance to the Benyamina Norte residential complex, situated in the upper area of Playamar. This vicinity typically experiences a significant volume of pedestrian traffic, particularly during daylight hours.
Upon receiving the initial alert, the Local Police in Torremolinos promptly dispatched a patrol to the location and notified healthcare services in an attempt to resuscitate the young woman. Regrettably, paramedics were unable to revive her, leading investigators to believe that she may have succumbed several hours prior.
Given the circumstances of the death occurring in a public area and the potential involvement of violence, the Local Police immediately contacted the Torremolinos-Benalmádena National Police Station. Specialized units, including the UDEV specialized and violent crime division responsible for homicide investigations, were deployed to the scene.
In accordance with protocol, a judicial commission comprising a duty judge, an Administration of Justice (LAJ) attorney, and a forensic doctor was activated to facilitate the removal of the victim's body. This process extended into the early morning hours, as meticulous measures were taken to preserve any potential evidence at the scene.
The victim's body was subsequently transported to the Hospital Clínico Universitario de Malaga for X-ray examinations to detect internal fractures or other indicators of violence. Following this initial step, it was taken to the Institute of Legal Medicine (IML), where an autopsy was conducted on yesterday morning.
The forensic examination was performed by two professionals from the pathology service, by established procedures for cases of violent death with suspicions regarding the cause of death. The final autopsy report remains pending the results of chemical, toxicological, and histopathological tests, which encompass microscopic analysis of samples collected during the autopsy.
As of the latest updates, authorities have not yet identified the victim, who is estimated to be between 20 and 30 years old. Notably, no identification documents were found with the victim, and the only item recovered near her was a nearly empty handbag. The police will now initiate efforts to cross-reference reports of missing individuals from recent days in hopes of establishing her identity.
While early police inquiries suggest that the cause of death may be asphyxiation, the specific type remains undetermined. Authorities have not ruled out the possibility of her death being the result of an adverse reaction to a substance. Regardless, the circumstances surrounding the transportation of the body to the scene are under scrutiny.
