Two British tourists detained for alleged sexual assault on a young male in Mallorca
Two British tourists have been arrested by the National Police in Manacor for an alleged sexual assault on a young man in a hotel in Cales de Mallorca. The victim had agreed to go to their room with the condition of not engaging in sexual activity, but, as he has reported, he was sexually assaulted and sustained injuries, necessitating medical attention.
According to information obtained by Diario de Mallorca, the young man had met the alleged perpetrators through a dating app, and went up to the room with no intention of having any sexual relations. He has stated that he only wanted company and to share "affectionate gestures."
However, following the incident, the young man went to the hospital, and with the information collected there, the Family and Women's Unit (Ufam) of the National Police conducted an investigation that led to the identification and arrest of the alleged perpetrators.
This is not the first report of sexual assaults related to tourists this season in Mallorca. The island has seen at least three groups of foreign tourists involved in such incidents this summer. Nevertheless, Mallorca's Tourism Councillor, José Marcial Rodríguez, has dismissed the notion of a "sexual assault tourism" phenomenon.
The two detainees are still in custody awaiting trial in Mallorca.
