VIDEO: 60-year-old driver arrested after speeding along Marbella Beach
A 60-year-old driver, under the influence of drugs, was caught driving at high speeds along Marbella's El Pinillo Beach, headed towards Fuengirola on Wednesday night. The man, who tested positive for cocaine and THC, was apprehended by Marbella Local Police after covering approximately three kilometres.
The 092 Emergency Line received five distress calls reporting the vehicle speeding recklessly along El Pinillo Beach in Marbella at around 8:15pm. One of the witnesses contacted the Andalusian Emergency Services (112) to report that a car had entered the beach and was driving along the sand.
The caller noted that the vehicle even got one of its wheels into the water. Furthermore, the caller stressed that the driver was travelling at high speeds, endangering individuals in the vicinity, with one person narrowly avoiding being run over.
This can be observed in a video captured by a witness, which also clearly displays the car's number plate, aiding the identification of the vehicle by the police. One of the spectators on the scene exclaimed in disbelief, "You can only see this in Marbella!" as the vehicle performed abrupt manoeuvres just a few metres away from a woman sitting in the sand. Fortunately, no medical assistance was required, as there were no reported injuries.
Two patrols from the Marbella Local Police accessed the Trocadero Beach area and intercepted the vehicle, a Mazda CX-5, and officers engaged with the driver, who was unable to provide coherent responses, raising suspicions of potential alcohol or drug impairment. Although the breathalyzer test yielded a negative result for alcohol, the drug test came back positive for cocaine and THC.
Consequently, the individual was arrested and taken to Marbella Local Police Headquarters on charges related to road safety violations, reckless driving, and operating a vehicle under the influence of narcotics.
