VIDEO: Fugitive wanted by German Authorities is arrested in Torremolinos
Officers of the National Police have apprehended a fugitive in the Costa Del Sol town of Torremolinos, who was subject to an active European Arrest Warrant issued by the German authorities for drug trafficking.
According to an official press release, he was arrested at a gym where he practiced martial arts and was sought for his involvement in an international criminal network engaged in the illegal production of amphetamines and drug distribution.
Following his arrest, the suspect was brought before the Central Court of Instruction number 2 of the National Court and temporarily incarcerated in the Málaga I Penitentiary Centre. Later, he was released and handed over to German authorities at Málaga airport to be taken home.
The investigation began in May after receiving information suggesting the presence of a German fugitive somewhere along the south coast, who was believed to be armed and using false identification to evade capture.
Through various inquiries, law enforcement officers narrowed their focus on the suspect, discovering that he was moving around the city of Torremolinos and regularly frequented a martial arts centre.
With the support of the Prevention and Reaction Unit (UPR) of the Torremolinos-Benalmádena Police and a French National Police officer under the framework of the European Police Stations project, officers set up an operation that culminated in the fugitive's arrest.
The suspect provided ID documents that showed signs of tampering and was arrested for alleged involvement in document forgery and, in addition, for the active European Arrest Warrant issued by German authorities.
