Valencia lifts smoking ban on bar and restaurant terraces
The regional government of Valencia has finally lifted the smoking ban on terraces of bars, cafes, and restaurants, which had been implemented by the Ministry of Health within the Covid restrictions and that was still in force even though the end of the health crisis was officially declared by the Council of Ministers on July 4th.
This was agreed during a meeting held on Wednesday between the President of the Generalitat, Carlos Mazón, the Minister of Health, Marciano Gómez, and the Minister of Industry, Commerce, and Tourism, Nuria Montes.
This means that the ban has now been lifted in every autonomous community in Spain as Valencia was the only region where the limitations had not yet been abolished.
The Generalitat also says that they are also meeting demands from the hospitality sector, which will once again have full capacity to decide themselves whether to allow smoking or vaping on their terraces.
Some of the restrictive measures as a result of the pandemic had already been repealed, such as the use of masks in public spaces and the limitation of capacity, however, despite the health crisis having been deemed to have ended, the hospitality industry was still affected by the Resolution of March 24th, by the Minister of Public Health.
This situation caused a legal conflict that now ends with the equalization of the regional regulations to the state, one that will come into force after its publication in the DOCV.
