Valencia takes pride in the repeal of Tourist Tax and promotes itself as 'Tax Free'
The new government of the Valencian Community is beaming with pride over one of its flagship initiatives: the repeal of the tourist tax, previously approved by the former administration under the leadership of Ximo Puig.
The current Valencian President, Carlos Mazón, had already included this measure in his inaugural speech last July. Now, the Minister of Tourism, Nuria Montes, has announced their intention to promote the region as 'tax free' at an upcoming major tourism fair in the UK.
According to reports, the minister participated in an event hosted by the Confederation of Businesses of the Valencian Community last Thursday at Fira Alacant (Alicante Fair). During the event, she outlined the strategies that her ministry would undertake going forward. Montes expressed her belief that the application of the aforementioned tax was "profoundly unjust." She explained that the current tax system already generates 3.9 billion euros annually from taxes paid by tourists.
The head of the Ministry of Tourism noted that they are already informing tourism agents and tour operators that they will no longer have to include the tax in their package budgets. She also emphasized the absence of the tax as an attractive feature for tourists.
In fact, the Valencian Community's tourism brand, Turisme Comunitat Valenciana, will be promoting itself as a 'tax-free' destination at the upcoming edition of the international World Travel Market, scheduled for November 6th-8th in London.
