What is retirement age in 2023 and how many years are needed to collect a 100% pension?
The retirement age in Spain is not always the same for everyone, since it may depend on many factors, such as the number of years they have worked, their profession, or if they have a disability. To begin with, it is important to be clear about the minimum age, in which a person can retire from their profession to collect a pension.
In this case, the essential requirement to be able to collect a contributory retirement pension is to have contributed a minimum of 15 years to Social Security, in which at least two years must be within the 15 years prior to the date on which the request is made.
However, the minimum 15 years of contribution will not allow that person to access a 100% pension, as to get this it is mandatory to reach the usual retirement age and a specific number of years of contribution, which has varied since 2013.
As a general rule, the age to access a retirement pension in 2023 is 66 years and 4 months old, if less than 37 years and 9 months have been contributed, or at 65 years old when 37 years and 9 months or more have been paid.
As a result of the pension reform, the retirement age and the minimum years of contribution to collect 100% of the pension will increase progressively until 2027.
This means that those who want to retire at age 65 from 2027 must have contributed for 38 years and 6 months or more, but if they have contributed less than this, they will have to wait until they are 67 years old to retire.
