Yellow weather alerts issued as Storm Domingos approaches
A significant weather alert has been issued for the Costa del Sol as Spain braces for the arrival of a new storm, named Domingo. The state weather agency, Aemet, has warned of adverse conditions, reminiscent of the earlier storm, Ciarán, which includes heavy rain, strong winds, and rough sea conditions in several regions across the country.
While the much-anticipated rainfall may not be on the horizon for the Costa del Sol, strong winds are expected to impact the region. Aemet has activated a yellow warning for coastal phenomena for today (Saturday), from 4pm to midnight.
Westerly winds with speeds ranging between 50 to 60 kilometres per hour (force 7) will affect the entire Malaga coastline. Additionally, waves of 2 to 3 meters are anticipated, especially along the Axarquia coastline.
Despite overcast skies, no rain is forecast, and temperatures are predicted to remain between 15°C and a maximum of 24°C.
Tomorrow, Sunday, there are currently no active weather alerts for Malaga, and skies are expected to clear. In other parts of Andalucía, cloudy skies with occasional rainfall are anticipated, especially in the evening, though it is unlikely to reach the far east and the Mediterranean slope.
Storm Domingo is expected to have a significant impact on various regions across Spain. Asturias is on red alert due to extreme risk from high waves and amber alert due to strong winds. The Balearic Islands are at risk due to both waves and wind, while Cantabria faces significant risk from strong winds and waves. The Community of Madrid is at risk due to strong winds, and the region of Murcia is at risk from both wind and waves. Navarre is at risk due to strong winds, and La Rioja faces significant risk from wind.
In Castilla y León, Ávila, Salamanca, Segovia, Soria, and Valladolid are under a yellow warning for wind, with Burgos under an amber warning for wind. León is under an amber warning for wind and a yellow warning for rain, Palencia is under an amber warning for wind, and Zamora is under an amber warning for wind and a yellow warning for rain.

The Catalan provinces of Barcelona, Gerona, and Tarragona face a risk of coastal phenomena, while in Extremadura, the province of Cáceres is at risk from wind. In Galicia, La Coruña and Lugo are at extreme risk from coastal phenomena, significant risk from wind, and at risk from rain. Orense is at significant risk from wind and at risk from rain, and Pontevedra is at extreme risk from waves and at significant risk from wind and rain.
In the Basque Country, the province of Álava is under a yellow warning for rain, while the provinces of Guipúzcoa and Vizcaya are under an amber warning for waves. In the Valencia region, Alicante is under a yellow warning for waves, and Castellón and Valencia are under a yellow warning for wind and waves.
The Pyrenees will see snow levels at 1,400/1,600 meters, with the potential to accumulate more than 5 centimetres of snow. In the Canary Islands, cloudy intervals are expected in the north, with the possibility of isolated light rainfall in the mountainous areas.
Temperatures are expected to rise in most areas, particularly in the eastern Cantabrian Sea, with the exception of the southeast of the Iberian Peninsula and the Canary Islands, where temperatures may slightly fall. Frost is expected in the Pyrenees.
Intense westerly and southwesterly winds are forecasted to prevail over the Spanish mainland and the Balearic Islands, with strong gusts expected in various regions, including the northwest quarter, the centre, the interior of the eastern third, and the coasts. Particularly strong winds are expected in the north of Galicia and the Cantabrian Sea, reaching very strong levels, while the Canary Islands will experience moderate northerly winds.
